But now bachelor boy Akshaye Khanna, tired of his single status, is waiting to fall in love!
“I'm shy,” confesses Akshaye Khanna. Not surprising then, that having been part of this industry for nearly 12 years now, he is still mysterious.
There’s only so much you hear about the man - he’s seldom in the news for the wrong reasons and the link-ups are few and far between.
“I genuinely try my best to be in the limelight, but that’s something I’m not good at,” is his justification for being elusive.
Akshaye, who has tried his hand at different kinds of roles like the boy-next-door in Dil Chahta Hai to a comic character in Hungama, prefers to be choosy.
“It’s a cutthroat business; it’s very easy to mess things up.
You could spend years building a career and two or three wrong decisions can set you back,” he says.
Does he feel that he has made some wrong decisions? “I have made several wrong decisions.
That’s life. I’ve certainly matured a lot over time.”
What about the women in his life? Is he choosy even when it comes to love?
“I’m choosy about my women... to an unhealthy extent,” he laughs.
Currently revelling in his bachelor boy status, Akshaye feels he’s ready for someone new.
“I’ve got my eyes and ears open.
Hopefully, I’ll meet someone soon.
I’m very much ready and wanting to get into a new relationship now.”
About Tara Sharma, who he was seeing for many years, he says, “Tara and I had a relationship for many, many years.
Now, we are no longer seeing each other, but we remain very good friends,” he clarifies.
And what about marriage? Having been part of a broken home, is he apprehensive of getting hitched?
“At some level, everybody is uncertain about marriage.
Everybody goes into marriage wanting it to be a lifelong commitment and relationship.
But in today’s world, it’s working out less and less.
I have that apprehension too, to a certain extent,” he says.
However, Akshay has got his recipe for a perfect marriage: “Being true to yourself and honesty are the keys to a happy relationship.”
Is he a hopeless romantic? “Do I come across as one? Oh dear, that's one mistake I’ve made,” he laughs off, leaving you in a mystery again.
