The Andhra Pradesh government has issued the notification merging 12 surrounding municipalities with Hyderabad making it ‘Greater Hyderabad from now on. With this Hyderabad gets the distinction of being the second largest city in the country next only to Delhi.
With this the city now sprawls over 625 sq. kms with a population of 67 lakh. The 12 surrounding municipalities that stand abolished as they merge with Grater Hyderabad are LB Nagar, Gaddiannaram, Uppal Kalan, Mlkajgiri, Kapra, Alwal, Quthbullapur, Kukatpalli, Serlingampalli, Rajendra Nagar, Ramachandrapuram and Patancheru.
What it means in real terms for the citizens of the surrounding municipalities that have been merged with GH is that they ill now have to pay higher taxes, property tax, water tariff, betterment charges and trade licenses all will now go up.
