The AICC chief and chairperson of the UPA Sonia Gandhi is visiting Nellore and Prakasam districts on Thursday. She will inaugurate the Krishnapatnam port and lay the foundation stone for thermal power project. She will also address a public meting at the AC Subba Reddy stadium in Nellore.

Sonia Gandhi’s programme is for a mere four hours. The state government is making unprecedented security arrangements. More than 10,000 police personnel have been deployed on security duty for her visit. The people in Nellore have been asked not to venture out of their homes after 9.00 a.m. on Thursday. Eve vehicular movement will be banned on the roads after 9.00 a.m.

The people say that a sort of virtual curfew has been imposed in the town. All the hotels and lodges in the area have been taken over by the police and revenue officials and the guests have been asked to vacate.
